    BERT Based Topic-Specific Crawler

    Get PDF
Nowadays, retrieving certain information using search engines is very popular and one of the main applications of the Internet. To speed up the process of getting the required information(web pages), having a topic-specific crawler is essential to fetch and index only the relevant ones. This paper presents a multi-thread web crawler using a Sentence Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (S-BERT). The S- BERT is used to calculate the similarity between the predefined classes and the text of the downloaded web pages. This provides a lightweight model compared to using a word embedding with deep learning for text classification. © 2021 IEEE

Deep Learning Obstacle Detection and Avoidance for Powered Wheelchair

Depth sensors like RGB-D cameras, LiDARs and laser scanners are widely investigated in research for Smart Wheelchair (SW) to carry out navigation, localization and ob-stacle detection and avoidance tasks. These sensors are costly compared to monocular camera sensor. A single off-the-shelf camera can be an economically efficient sensor to achieve obstacle detection and avoidance. We present in this paper a single camera based obstacle detection and avoidance method without using any 3D information. It is a novel vision-only system for wheelchair obstacle detection and avoidance that uses a Raspberry Pi along with Raspberry Pi camera. The obstacles are detected using a deep learning model built on MobileNetV2 SSD. The model is retrained using a dedicated dataset that was built for this purpose. Bounding boxes are used to mark detected obstacles; and feed them as features to the image space obstacle avoidance module. Figure 1 depicts internal view of what does the system see and an abstract description of our system's functionality. © 2022 IEEE

Success of each project and efficiency is required to achieve a greater advantage over the firms in construction industry today. Effective project management overcomes these types of challenges such as good communication and good planning and scheduling. Each big construction project company strives to achieve the most efficient and effective project management processes. The success factors which are important for project management in high rise building project success to prevent the project delay, however the main issues that can lead the project to fail is lack of communication among the project team. This study identifies the project management practices in high rise building, success factor for project management on high rise building and un-success factor for project management. The methodology of this study uses questionnaire method and the targeted are G7 contractors’ firms in Johor Bahru with number of 60 respondents. This study uses descriptive statistical analysis which is frequency and mean by SPPS software. The dominant practice from the analysis for the first objective is comprehensive understanding of the work and process. While, the dominant success factor from the analysis for the second objective are project manager ability to coordinate and motivate team. Finally, the dominant factor from the analysis for the third objective un-success factor which is financial difficulties faced by the contractor. Further study can be performed regarding this topic in different ways or methods such as other provinces or cities of Malaysia; another type of construction projects, such as highways construction project, dam construction project, using another grade of contractors such as G6, G5 and etc

A rapidly increasing number of people need to use a wheelchair (WC). WC users face several challenges while using the WC. Obstacle avoidance is one of these challenges. Avoidance for some users cannot be done simply using manual control. We propose that the WC should be able to achieve the avoidance automatically. Previous systems offered solutions to similar problems using a fusion of expensive depth sensors. This system uses vision-only technology, via a single camera, to achieve detection and avoidance at a cost that makes it accessible to a large number of disabled users. Our approach integrates functionalities from deep learning, computer vision and mobile robotics fields into the standard powered wheelchair (PWC). A deep-learning model is adapted using learning-transfer techniques to detect obstacles. A dataset of sidewalks has been developed to be used in the learning-transfer process. Any obstacle detected in front of the WC is avoided using a developed image- space avoidance method. The system was deployed during experiments on a Hardware setup using a real PWC. Object detection accuracy is reported as 61% mAP, which is comparable to methods implemented using standard computers. The control module generated the required motor speeds to avoid the obstacle successfully. The overall system achieves a speed of 5 FPS. We conclude that our cost-effective system can work effectively without the need for redundant and costly depth sensors. Adopting our system will increase the mobility of people with disabilities both indoors and outdoors. This opens the way for a vision-only fully autonomous WC

The aim of this research is to investigate basic properties of soil mixture using wire mesh as support strength. The soil mixture consists of sand, soil, clay, silt and Kenaf. Adobe buildings are encountered in almost every region of the world and constitute a significant feature of the international cultural heritage. However, the behaviour of adobe materials and earth has not yet been adequately investigated. Ecologic building materials such as adobe bricks have become of greater economic importance in recent years. Adobe is a form of natural architecture built with environment friendly materials which provide indoor protection from outside temperature conditions. It is important to consider the strength of adobe brick. This study was conducted to determine the effect of the strength among the sample with wire mesh and without wire mesh on adobe brick. As the experimental program was planned, consisting tests such as compressive strength and flexural strength, were conducted to investigate the strength of adobe bricks. The result showed that the use of wire mesh increases the compressive strength 40% to 50% respectively. In addition, that, wire mesh increases the compressive strength of adobe bricks. For this measure of study the impact for using wire mesh on compressive strength test is noticeable. However, adobe is good in taking flexural stresses. The samples treated with wire mesh exhibits highest compressive and flexural strength test. The average of the cubes and beams sample have shown usage of wire mesh has increased the strength of the samples. Thus, the impact of wire mesh on flexural strength and compressive strength of adobe is noticeable
